IT seminar – Senescence and cancer: going hand in hand?

IT seminar – Senescence and cancer: going hand in hand?

Speaker: Margaux Bieuville

Abstract:

When my grandmother asked me to tell her about my PhD, I was lost in translation. Then I started like that:

Cells divide. Over divisions, cells get damaged. Damaged cells can lead to cancer. But damaged cells can also just stop dividing and it’s called cellular senescence. My project is about how our conceptions about the relationship between cellular senescence and cancers led to puzzling observations in populations. I’m investigating whether cellular senescence evolved as a defense mechanism against cancer. Because I like evolution: it picks my brains!
