The Climate Narrative Circle is a workshop series to generate new, empowering, narratives for our climate future in the 2020s.

Our current set of climate narratives - “only 10 more years”, “the 2010s was a failed decade”, “the house is on fire” ; culminating with the Great Australian Firestorm are driving increasing levels of anxiety, helplessness and shutdown.

These narratives - which are used by mainstream media and civil society - are principally derived from a 20th century industrial age paradigm led by the United Nations and other leading international bodies. People are still looking to power elites to lead and deliver the necessary change and feel increasingly helpless and locked into a scenario of doom.

The workshop series proposed in this note combines dialogue, reading, listening and writing exercises to derive fresh climate narratives that:

  • Provide a voice to participants for re-framing the current climate narratives.
  • Develop an innovative practice for reshaping narratives for change grounded in individual and collective agency.
  • Co-produce a compendium of written expression based on participants sensemaking and emotional response to the current context.

Each workshop will have a sharing circle, a reading out loud, and writing component.
