The 2ndInternational Colloquium on Network and Evolution, April 24th, Sorbonne Université, Paris France (Free but registration strongly encouraged)

Dear all,

The AIRE team organizes a free international colloquium on Networks and Evolution to be held at Sorbonne Université (Campus Pierre et Marie Curie, Jussieu Métro Station), on April 24th from 9 :30 to 17 :00. The event is free.

It will consist of two distinct parts : scientific conferences in the morning by renowned speakers, and practical bioinformatic tutorials in the afternoon (you can attend one but not the other, there is no need for registration for the morning, but we require registration for the afternoon event, since 15 seats only are available). All academics, and in particular students, are very welcome to attend,

Talks (provisional titles, but final speakers) will start at 9 :30 (exact room and building within the Jussieu Campus will be specified at a later date) :

9 :30-10 :15 : Pr. Fernando Baquero (Ramón y Cajal University Hospital - Ramón y Cajal Institute for Health Research, IRYCIS. Microbial Biology and Evolution, Department of Microbiology, Spain): 'Evolution and Networks’

10 :15-11 :00 : Dr. Eduardo Rocha (Unité de génomique évolutive des microbes, Institut Pasteur, France) : ‘Networks of gene exchange across mobile elements and their bacterial hosts’

11 :00-11 :45 : Pr. Sara Mitri (Department of Fundamental Microbiology, Université de Lausanne, Switzerland) : ‘Evolutionary ecology of microbial communities’

11 :45-12 :30 : Dr. Anja Spang (Microbiology & Biogeochemistry, Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research, Netherlands) : ‘Microbial evolution, Eukaryogenesis, and Symbiosis’

Practicals, led by Pr. Philippe Lopez (ISYEB, Paris, France) will start at 14PM. They will include:

  • Construction and visualization of gene similarity networks

  • Detection of composite genes

  • Construction and visualization of genome similarity networks

  • If time permits : Mining metagenomes with networks)

The whole event is free, but lunch will only be provided to speakers.

Please register for the practical session (and if possible let us know you will attend the morning session) by email to :

Looking forward,

Dr. Eric Bapteste on behalf of The AIRE team (ISYEB)
